The Air and Marine Family Foundation (www.cbpamo.org) is not only an independent advocate for Air and Marine Operations (AMO) but also a gathering place, a community for the AMO Family.  As a nascent organization, our financial depth limits the traditional support provided by foundations such as ours.  However, part of our difference is not only the broad umbrella for AMO associated folks but our desire to encourage comradery and community.  That is why we attempt to tell AMO stories.  At the moment, our website is our best tool to do this.  We invite you to interact with the stories on the website and to connect with one another.  Please bring us your story to be shared within our community.  Let us live life together.

 

Recently, an AMO Family member reached out and asked if we could tell a small piece of his story. Tom Salter is retired from the Navy.  He joined AMO as a second career and he hit the ground running.  His AMO assignments include Deputy Executive Director, Air & Marine Operations Center, Director, National Air Security Operations – Corpus Christi and Director, National Air Training Center.  Naturally, there were some staff assignments sprinkled in the mix. He served many years in the P-3 program, in the field and in AMO Headquarters. In November of 2024, Tom’s health began to decline and he was diagnosed of stage IV pancreatic cancer. 

 

Tom now lives in Kansas City and he has asked that we disclose his pancreatic cancer diagnosis so the AMO community can share in his journey.  He desires to reestablish connections with those who have served with him and to make new AMO friends.  

 

Those of you who know Tom, know that he is a fighter. He solves problems and gets “Stuff” done.  He will mount a multi-prong attack to overcome obstacles. His cancer battle is no different in that Tom has been seeing his primary care physicians, Veterans Affairs medical professionals and he had also done significant research on alternative treatments, domestically and abroad.
