Michel O. Maceda Memorial Act Signed into Law
AMFF's focused mission is supporting Air and Marine Operations personnel and their families in times of need. A families’ greatest time of need is when a loved one has been killed in the line of duty. Air and Marine Operations Agent Michel O. Maceda gave the ultimate sacrifice while enforcing the customs and immigration laws off the Puerto Rican coast. He was killed in a gun fight with criminals attempting to smuggle illegal drugs into the United States.
Since his death, in November 2022, efforts have been made to honor his legacy and dedication. The many efforts across the federal workforce culminated on December 11, 2024. President Biden signed into law H.R.3502, the Michel O. Maceda Memorial Act.
The Michel O. Maceda Memorial Act was introduced by Resident Commissioner Jenniffer Gonzalez Colon (R-PR) and Senator Rick Scott (R-FL) and officially renames the Mayaguez Marine Unit in Puerto Rico, the Michel O. Maceda Marine Unit. This reminder of his heroic actions will inspire law enforcement agents, our citizens and his family for many years to come.
