End of Watch: December 16, 2024
Law enforcement is a dangerous profession. Aviation careers are loaded with risk. AMO agents uniquely combine these professions to serve and protect our nation. These agents are citizens, spouses, parents, neighbors and have the same human desires as anyone else. Their day starts like most citizens. They leave for work and kiss their families goodbye with every expectation to come home at shift’s end. However, there is nothing routine about their day. Their public service commitment is accompanied by calm acceptance of the risk. Death is normalized, but rarely expected. AMFF mourns with the family of Agent Jeffery Kanas died serving his country on what was to be another “normal” day. He joins the revered roster of agents that did not come home at the end of their shift. This nation, fellow agents and citizens are grateful for his, and his family’s sacrifice. God bless them all.

2024 Michel Maceda Memorial Run
What an honor to join with runners across the country at today’s CBP, Air and Marine Operations (AMO), 2024 Michel Maceda Memorial run. It was a true privilege. The nation-wide run commenced at 0801 hours Atlantic Standard Time and commemorated the second anniversary of the ruthless killing of Marine Agent, Michel Maceda. While interdicting a smuggling vessel off the coast of Puerto Rico, a gunfight erupted. Agent Maceda was killed and two other Marine Agents were seriously injured. Committed to protect the American people, AMO personnel routinely engage in dangerous missions in the air and on the sea throughout the Western Hemisphere. Agent Maceda’s murder was a catalyst to create the Air and Marine Family Foundation (AMFF); an organization dedicated to support the AMO Families facing unforeseen challenges and during times of need. A Reflection On Our First Month
This first month is encouraging, however, the funding base to provide support on an enduring and robust level is not in place yet. Read more about our first month, here.
Our Launch
On September 1, 2024 The Air and Marine Family Foundaion Officially launched the organization and funding campaign. The primary goal of this first year of operaion is to build funds and be in a position to support AMO Family members in need. Until the foundation of our funding base is established, we will only be able to provide limited support. This means we will focus on the most critical AMO Family Member needs and will not be able to honor or support all grant requests.
2024 Goal
In our first year we intend to focus on spreading the word, encouraging the AMO Family to become members and/or donate to the cause. Our envisioned support is only possible if the AMO Family and community want to help themselves. Without these memberships and donations needed to build a fund base, none of the support we hope to provide will be possible.
